One of God’s greatest desires is to be believed, it’s right up there with His desire to be loved.
Believing God is necessary to have an authentic relationship with Him. But what does it truly mean to believe God? I asked myself that question when it seemed that my faith was failing.
What I found is that:
It is easy to believe in Jesus for salvation when our hearts are touched by His saving grace, but there is a faith that presses beyond receiving initial salvation. Drawing near to God and believing that He wants to reward us is another level all together.
The Bible tells us that, ” Without faith it is impossible to please God, for whoever would draw near to God must believe that He is and that He is a Rewarder those who seek Him” Hebrews 11:6
That He Is
When Moses was to go as a deliverer to the people of Israel he asked God whom should he say sent Him and by what name should he refer to God and the Lord said to Moses, “‘I AM THAT I AM.’ Thus you shall say to the children of Israel, ‘I AM has sent me to you.’” (Exodus 3:14)
The phrase “I AM” means: “to exist, that is, be or become, come to pass.” God, in this name “I AM” God declares His eternal, everpresent existence, and reveals that He has existed and always will be. Because God and His Word are One, by His very nature when He speaks it IS, meaning it must exist, come to be, come to pass.
When we desire to draw near to God we must settle in our hearts that He is not an idea or a thought in our hearts. We must believe that He IS the Solution to every problem, the Giver of every good things, that He is a real Person who hears, sees and cares for us, that what can trust and believe in His written promises and those that he speaks to our hearts. When we lack this confidence in God it displeases Him. Why? Because His greatest desires is to be believed.
James 1:5-7 AMP says, God gives to everyone liberally and ungrudgingly, without reproaching or faultfinding, and it will be given him. Only it must be in faith that he asks with no wavering (no hesitating, no doubting). For the one who wavers (hesitates, doubts) is like the billowing surge out at sea that is blown hither and thither and tossed by the wind. For truly, let not such a person imagine that he will receive anything [he asks for] from the Lord.
God speaks to us through His Son Jesus which the Word of God and through the Holy Spirit. When we lack trust in the written Word of God it cannot become life to us and therefore it cannot change our hearts and our lives. When we do not believe it the power of Holy Spirit His power cannot be fully manifest in our lives.
The first step in believing God beyond salvation is to take Him at His Word about Himself and everything else He says including what He says about you. Beloved, I pray you make the decision like I had to, to believe God and make His Word the first and the finally authority in your life, above your feelings, your wrong thinking, your circumstances and other people. Seek Him in this way and you will be rewarded!
