I have been following Priscilla Shirer’s #wfasummer on her website Going Beyond.com.
This Wednesday was the first in a six-week series in which she will be discussing her new movie War Room coming out August 28th, her new book Fervent that’s out now and her new bible study Armor of God that is about to be released, all three about prayer!
If you know me personally you know that I have been leading 6 am prayer at my church every Saturday morning for over five years and I’ve been part of the prayer/intercessory ministry at my church since 2000 under seasoned women of prayer. Though I lead the women’s ministry, blog and write books and I don’t talk about it a lot, prayer is my first ministry and one that I cannot do without. It is an honor to serve the Lord in prayer. Prayer is as much about us ministering to the Lord as it is about Him ministering to us.
This week for a chance to win her new book Fervent she asked us to email her our definition of prayer in a few simple sentences. I wrote and sent my definition just today after I watched the webcast. After I sent it, I thought, “Hmmm this is good. I should share it with y’all.” So here it is…
My definition of prayer is being able to go to God in an intimate and authentic way, and without pretense share my heart and hear His. My favorite verse and one that describes my most favorite times in prayer is Psalm 27:4 which says, “One thing have I asked of the Lord, that will I seek after: that I may dwell in the house of the Lord all the days of my life, to gaze upon the beauty of the Lord and to inquire in his temple.” Oh to be able to inquire of the Lord and to hear His voice is a privilege, one I failed to appreciate until the time came that I could not hear for my own busyness. #wfasummer
Beloved, how do you define prayer?
