You are enough. You are good enough, smart enough, pretty enough.
Feelings of Inadequacy
Have you ever had someone make you feel inadequate, like you did not measure up to their standards, weren’t good enough, smart enough, pretty enough for them? When it is a stranger that hurts your confidence you should be able to get built back up by those that know and love you. But sometimes the people who make you feel you like you’re not enough are the people who are supposed to encourage you.
Have you ever had your husband or boyfriend, your parent, your friend or someone else whose opinion matters to you, who you look to for support and encouragement make you feel inadequate? It can make you believe that the things being said might just be true, because after all the ones who love you believe you’re not enough.
The Devils Plan
That’s all the devil needs to plant the lie in your heart that you are not enough, that you don’t measure up as a woman, wife, mother, child, coworker, friend, etc. Hurtful words will take root and create feelings of inadequacy for a lifetime if they aren’t dealt with soon enough. You deal with every lie of the enemy by replacing it truth – what God says about you.
God’s Thoughts Toward You
You have to know that God thinks you are enough. You are accepted by Him in Jesus Christ the Beloved, just as you are, flaws and all (see Ephesians 1:6). This means that God has highly favored you, bestowed His grace and unmerited favor on you, and gave you a place of honor that brings joy, liberty and abundant life.
It’s not our jobs to point out each other’s flaws. We are supposed to see the best in each other and encourage and cultivate those qualities so each person can become better.
I was in a relationship with a person that always let me know what I needed to fix to be better and more pleasing to him. This left me always trying to measure up to his ever-changing standards. It wasn’t until I began to believe that I was enough because God said so that I stopped allowing him to make me feel inadequate.
I realized that while maybe I wasn’t the one for him, and if I were to be honest with myself, I still had some work to do on myself but God knew me when He formed me and He made me enough to be who He called me to be.
The Power to Choose Belongs to You
If you have people in your life that always tell you what’s wrong with you but never tell you what’s right, even if you can’t remove them, know that you don’t have to allow them to speak destructively into your life. You have the power to control who speaks into your life by choosing who you give your ear to.
God’s Plan
Beloved, you are God’s masterpiece. He created you anew in Christ Jesus, with everything you need to live the life, be the person and do the things He has called you to, including having fulfilling relationship with people who celebrate and challenge you to grow and be better not just tolerate you, put you down, or make to feel like you are not enough.
