“And whatever you do, do it heartily, as to the Lord and not to men, knowing that from the Lord you will receive the reward of the inheritance; for you serve the Lord Christ” (Colossians 3:23-24).
Serve as unto the Lord
To serve others as unto the Lord means to voluntarily offer your service or to put yourself under the yoke of another for Christ’s sake. As women, wives and mothers, we serve people in many different ways, especially our children. Every day I serve someone in some way. At home I serve my family, though there are days when my strength has to come from God to complete my tasks. At work I serve my employer with the best interest of the company in mind. At church I come under the authority of my pastors and serve the Lord by serving them and helping to fulfill the vision the Lord has given them. In all of these things I serve as unto the Lord, knowing that it is from Christ that I will receive my reward.
Grace to Serve
However, there are times when I don’t want to serve anyone. I am thankful that when these times come God’s grace takes over and I remember that it is the Lord I am serving. This fills my heart with joy and leaves no room for giving into weariness and complaining. It inspires me to know that I am serving the Lord in each act of service I do for others and it makes me want to do my best for those He has entrusted to my care.
You Reward is with God
Beloved, the service the Lord desires from each one of us is unhindered, unselfish, and sacrificial. When you find yourself weary or tired in the midst of your daily with tasks, whether it be at home, work, church, or any other place you have committed to be of service, be energized by the thought that it is the Lord Jesus you are serving. This will help you do it thoroughly and God will reward your service with an inheritance laid up just for you.
Happy Mother’s Day today and happy serving always!
