Hey Beloved! We all get to choose what we give our time and attention.
During this current situation we are all facing, many of us have extra time on our hands. This has given us an opportunity to refocus our priorities and reset our lifestyles to spend more time with Jesus and focus on what matters most.
In the story of Martha and Mary, the two sisters that were friends with Jesus, He makes it clear that we can become so distracted with serving that it can keep us away from the one thing that is needed.
Now it happened as they went that He entered a certain village, and a certain woman named Martha welcomed Him into her house. And she had a sister called Mary, who also sat at Jesus’ feet and heard His word. Martha was distracted with much serving, and she approached Him and said, ‘Lord, do You not care that my sister has left me to serve alone? Therefore tell her to help me.’ And Jesus answered and said to her, ‘Martha, Martha, you are worried and troubled about many things. But one thing is needed, and Mary has chosen that good part, which will not be taken away from her.’
(Luke 10:38-42)
When we making serving others before spending time with Jesus a habit it develops into a distracted lifestyle.
The bible defines being distracted as having care, worry, or anxiousness. It comes from a root word that means to part, share, to disunite, distribute, divide, or give in part. A lifestyle is defined as the habits, attitudes, and standards, that together constitute the way in which an individual, group, or culture live.
A distracted lifestyle will keep you from having a close relationship with Jesus and being able to hear His word.
During this time when we’ve all been forced to slow down, you can choose to continue with your old distracting habits. You can choose to spend your time worrying about things you cannot control. Or you can choose to develop the habit of sitting at Jesus’s feet and hear His word, first as a lifestyle?
