For the past two weeks, God has been speaking prophetically, at least to me, that we, the church need to watch and pray.
1 Peter 4:7 says, “But the end of all things is at hand; therefore be serious and watchful in your prayers.”
Maybe God is calling us to watch and pray because of all the recent events, many of which could have been prevented through united, Spirit-led prayer. Even if you already have a prayer life, when God calls His people to watch and pray it means there are unseen things that can only be prevented or realized through the act of prayer. There are things that can come into being no other way.
However, we will never know if we don’t enter into prayer.
Prayer is a holy calling that takes discipline, faith, and a love for God if you are to be consistent and effective at it.
While it’s true that most Christians pray, most Christians don’t pray fervently or expectantly or delightfully. The devil works overtime to distract us from praying this way because he knows that there is power is in heartfelt, faith-filled prayer. Not religious, repetitious prayer but prayer that breaks through like Jacob did when he wrestled with God all night long. (Read Genesis 32:22-30)
