Death and life are in the power of the tongue: and they that love it shall eat the fruit thereof. Proverbs 18:21
Like Seeds Sown in a Garden
Words are like seeds sown in a garden, they have the power to produce a harvest after their own kind, blessings or curses in our lives.
The Power of Words
What we speak about ourselves, our circumstances, our friends and family, and yes even our enemies have a greater effect than most of us would like to believe.
Praying and Saying
I used to think I could pray one way and then speak another way. Boy, was I wrong. Words spoken from the heart outweigh repetitious prayers spoken from the head. Even if you spend hours in prayer and then come out and start speaking words of doubt and fear all that you prayed IS HINDERED by your conversation. You can go back into prayer about whatever it was you were asking God for but if you keep speaking doubt and fear you will have what you say.
It’s Our Choice
Before the children of Israel headed for the Promised Land Moses explained the choice before t hat was before them: “I have set before you life and death, blessing and cursing; therefore choose life, that both you and your descendants may live,” Deuteronomy 30:19.
Once I accepted the truth, that my words DO affect my life, I made the decision to speak life whether than speaking aimlessly as if they have no power to produce. This is Kingdom principle that we just can’t get away from. The Bible says, “As long as the earth remains, there will be planting and harvest, cold and heat, summer and winter, day and night,” Genesis 8:22.
Harvest Time
Ask yourself what you’ve been saying after praying. Maybe you’ve seen a good harvests in some areas of your life bu in other areas where you’ve spoken negatively you’re now reaping what you’ve spoken. Maybe you have personal goals or desires that just don’t seem to be coming to fruition but you keep putting yourself down. Maybe you’ve been praying for someone but speaking negative about that person at the same time or maybe you’re trying to forgive someone while at the same time continuing to talk about what they did to you. Jesus said you can have what you say, (see Mark 11:23). If the garden of your life is not producing the blessings you’ve been praying for, change what you are saying. You may not notice a difference right away, (no seed produces fruit immediately) but a new fruit will bloom and the old will wither away.
Some times it’s better to say nothing than to speak bad about what you are believing God for.
In the Book of Second Kings, there was a Shunammite woman who was very wealthy but she and her husband had no child. The prophet Elisha frequently visited her town and so she decided to have her servants build him a room so that he could be comfortable when he visited. In return he wanted to bless her so he prophesied that the Lord would give her a son and He did. But then later her son died in the field while working with his father. When her servants brought her the news she did not give in and start speaking in fear, not even when asked by some what happened. But her answer was, “It is well,” 2 Kings 4:23. Her words did not change based on how she was feeling. (You can read the whole story in 2 Kings chapter 4.)
Prayer for a New Harvest
Beloved, here’s a prayer for you in you need a new harvest: Lord forgive me for not taking you at your Word concerning my words. I know that you have great and wonderful things for me and that you long to answer my prayers and give me the desires of my heart. I will no longer hinder your work by speaking against myself and others in a negative way. Thank you that your mercies are new everyday and I can start replanting my garden today and bring forth good fruit that will remain in every area of my life. In Jesus name Amen
