A mindset is an established set of attitudes held by someone. When lies control our mindset about God we are in trouble.
Lies are stronghold that come from our past experiences and what we were taught to believe. Lies keep us stuck in cycles and systems so that we cannot receive God’s best. Lies can only be destroyed by Truth.
Here are three lies I once believed about God and the truths that change my mind.
1. I believed I wasn’t God enough for God, that God could never really bless me because I started my adult life on the wrong path. I thought me and my life were just unfixable.
That is a lie. God makes all things work together for our good. His Blood has already overcome every curse. He is able to make us who we were created to be, give us an inheritance among those who are His.
“So now, brethren, I commend you to God and to the word of His grace, which is able to build you up and give you an inheritance among all those who are sanctified,” (Acts 20:32).
“And they overcame him by the blood of the Lamb and by the word of their testimony, and they did not love their lives to the death,” (Revelations 12:11).
2. I believed that God wouldn’t really answer my prayers.
That is a lie. God does answer our prayers. He doesn’t hold anything against us. He only asks that we pray in faith and believe in Him.
James 1:5-6 says, “If any of you is deficient in wisdom, let him ask of the giving God [Who gives] to everyone liberally and ungrudgingly, without reproaching or faultfinding, and it will be given him. Only it must be in faith that he asks with no wavering (no hesitating, no doubting). For the one who wavers (hesitates, doubts) is like the billowing surge out at sea that is blown hither and thither and tossed by the wind,” (AMP).
3. I believed that God’s Word couldn’t really change my life. It seemed that though I tried my life remained the same.
That’s lie. God’s Word is full of life and power (Hebrews 4:12). His Word spoken and acted on in faith can and does change our circumstances. However, it’s up to us to allow His Word to take root in our hearts and bear fruit in our lives.
The parable of the Sower Explain
The seed is the word of God. Those by the wayside are the ones who hear; then the devil comes and takes away the word out of their hearts, lest they should believe and be saved. But the ones on the rock are those who, when they hear, receive the word with joy; and these have no root, who believe for a while and in time of temptation fall away. Now the ones that fell among thorns are those who, when they have heard, go out and are choked with cares, riches, and pleasures of life, and bring no fruit to maturity. But the ones that fell on the good ground are those who, having heard the word with a noble and good heart, keep it and bear fruit with patience. Luke 18:11-15
We also have to allow His Spirit to direct our speech because life and death, blessing and cursing is in the power of our tongue. Like any fruit-bearing seed, God’s Word needs time, water and good soil to produce fruit. So, we have to be willing to wait on the process and work the power in our tongues. (Deuteronomy 30:19).
