Motherhood is a journey of love and growth, that like all our closest relationships helps define our character as we become the women God called us to be.
It’s been a while since I’ve written anything or did any vlogs. My own mother went to be with the Lord on March 23rd. It happened quite unexpectedly after a month-long fight against a nasty infection. Yet the Lord prepared me for this new season of life without my mother here on earth. My consolation is that she is with the Lord. It was a defining moment in my own motherhood journey for sure.
My oldest daughter will be 29 years old this year, my oldest son 25, my youngest son 23, and my baby girl 21. There have been seasons of great joy and celebration and there have also been seasons of disappointment and heartache as my children have become young adults. That’s not every mom’s story but it’s mine. In those moments, when things did not go as I hoped or planned I was tempted to compare myself with other moms and measure myself by their journeys. But that doesn’t work. It doesn’t fix anything.
Your motherhood journey is yours to enjoy as you partner with God and/or your husband or their father in training them up in the way the should go (Proverbs 22:6). However, sometimes they do depart from God but He will bring them back in due time (Jeremiah 31:16-17).
What are some pivotal moments that defined you in your motherhood journey?
For me, the times when things didn’t go as planned made me digger deeper with God and decide what kind of mother I wanted to be. It made me think long and hard about whether to choose relationship or religion. Whether I would use those seasons of disappointment to grow my faith and my prayer life and exercise the love and mercy of God or judgment, how I would reflect God’s character to my children when they go their own way (Micah 7:18).
In the video below I share some moment’s that defined my mother journey and how my mom passing made me think of what kind of legacy I want to leave my children.
Beloved, if you’re a mother or want to be a mother one day, I hope this video will encourage you no matter what season of motherhood you’re in to use the pivotal moments in your motherhood journey to help you become the woman God called you to be.
