Your heart is your inner-person and words, experiences and memories are the garments you clothe that person with. They are the truth or the lies that believe about our ourselves and experiences.Though they cannot be seen with the natural eye, they are there.
Some of the things we wear on our hearts weigh us down and make us feel unloved, unclean, ashamed and rejected. Other things make us feel loved, accepted, confident and beautiful.
The Wardrobe – Truth and Lies
We wear our wins and victories, love, acceptance, kind words spoken, and the attitudes and attributes that make us beautiful. We can also wear our failures, hurts, shame, rejection, unkind words spoken into our hearts and the attitudes and attributes that make us have ugly hearts stained with all manner of sin.
We either wear forgiveness –accepting and receiving forgiveness or unforgiveness – not being able to forgive or receive forgiveness. The same thing applies to love and the other essentials of any heart’s wardrobe.
We either wear godly attitudes that results in garments fit to be worn into eternity or ungodly attitudes like jealousy, anger, resentment, competition, pride, ambition, pretense, strife, lust, gossip and other secret sins. These garments are of the world and the carnal nature. All these things are based on the truth or lies that we believe about ourselves and our God.
Before becoming new creations in Christ most of our garments were lies that remained fixed on our hearts and became the active, guiding forces of our lives. This is why the Bible warns us: “Guard your heart above all else, for it determines the course of your life,” Proverbs 4:23 NTL.
God’s word tells us that once we receive Christ we become new creations. When this happens old things are supposed to pass away and all things are supposed to become new. It is true, all things do become new but our hearts must be changed so that we will no longer desire to wear the garments of our old life and the lies it was based on, but to put on the new garments of truth we get with our new life.
If you believe that you cannot forgive, get over your past, be a better person, rise above ungodly feelings and attitudes than you wont. You will continue to wear these things on your heart. If you believe that you can rise above the hurt, the shame, the pain and yes even the pride of your victories and be who God created you to be than you will.
Until we change the garments of our hearts most of us will live as hypocrites to some degree, posing as one person while our hearts tell another story.
Matthew 23:27 says, “Woe to you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! For you are like whitewashed tombs, which outwardly appear beautiful, but within are full of dead people’s bones and all uncleanness.”
You can look good on the outside and act even better, yet still wear the old garments on your hearts. Sooner or later what you wear on the inside will break out and expose who you really are.
Beloved, you may still be wearing the garments of lies on your heart but God has new garments of truth for you to make you beautiful. It’s up to you to put them on.
[…] Have you ever wanted to change but felt like you couldn’t? That’s called being stuck. […]
