Are there cracks in your foundation?
There were some in mine. I see many results when I pray for others, and though I have seen answers to many of my personal prayers, in some areas I wasn’t seeing results. As I sought the Lord as to why in some areas of my life I seemed to be stuck I realized that the foundation of my faith had cracks in it.
Allow me to explain. It is not that I did not have a good foundation for I’ve built my life upon Jesus and the Bible says when the rains descend and the winds blow if we are not built upon the Rock the fall of our house (soul, life, relationship with God) will be great. I’ve been through some spiritual storms and floods and I’m still standing in Christ, joyfully so.
However, cracks are different. To the extent that we are not willing to be transformed by the renewing of our minds to God’s way of living and doing things in any area, but instead allow ourselves to be conformed to the world’s ways will be the extent of the damage to our foundation, (Romans 12:2). When life gets tough, how much we are willing to be formed into the image of the Son of God will be tested, and sometimes we will fail. When this happen, the questions should be, “Why?” We have to look within to find the answer.
A Sure Foundation
Our Christian faith should be “built upon the foundation of the apostles and prophets, Jesus Christ himself being the chief corner stone” Ephesians 2:20
If we look at the significance of each one of these layers of the foundation we can understand what it means to build our lives upon them and we will also be able to recognize any cracks in our foundations.
Jesus Christ is the Chief cornerstone which means that everything is built upon Him.
This begs the question: Who is He? This is the same question he asked His disciples and Peter answered, “You are the Christ, the Son of the Living God,” Matthew 16:16. When Peter gave Jesus this right answer, He spoke to Peter, “upon this rock (of revelation about Me) I will build my church and the gates of hell shall not be able to prevail against it,” Matthew 16:18.
The Son of Living LOVE
There are so many names and attributes we can ascribe to God but there is one that all the others hang upon. John’s gospel introduces Jesus as the Word of God but then he later comes to know Him also as LOVE. John further describe and give testimony of LOVE in his epistles. LOVE, as seen in 1 Corinthian 13, the Love chapter is our foundation because without it nothing else matters.
Jesus Himself tells us that LOVE is what all the prophets and the law hang on.
Thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy mind. This is the first and great commandment. And the second is like unto it, Thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself. On these two commandments hang all the law and the prophets. Matthew 22:38-40.
Beloved, this means that if you are not walking in love with God and man, even if you know and believe in this Love you have a crack. What we think is Love is often not Love because the Love of God does not turn off. It all works, it never fails. Love includes forgiveness, always thinking the best, being selfless, and not seeking revenge or speaking evil of others, not even our enemies, even in our thoughts. That’s the hard part, God sees the intents of the heart. I had to fix some things in this area – hidden places and spaces.
Next are the apostles, those who wrote the New Testament.
They are the teachers of the New Commandment. They represent obedience to the Word of God. The things that were written in the New Testament are a collection of letters intended for our edification and instruction. Not only do we have to walk in love with people and love God with everything we are but we also have to obey His Word. In order to do this we must know what the Word says, believe it, and make up our minds that we will live our lives by it. I basically had to throw out many of things I was doing or not doing and replace them with God’s way of doing and thinking.
After the apostles are the prophets, those which bring good news of things to come.
They represent to promises of God. All of God’s promises are conditional upon our obedience to His Word by our faith in Him which works by Love, (Galatians 5:6). Abraham obeyed God’s Word, not only His Word of promise but His commands to get the promise. Whatever God told him to do, he did it by faith. TRUST. I have to say no to fear and put my trust in God everyday, even when I don’t understand His methods and can’t see the end of matter. By FAITH I MUST follow Him. This is the Christian live.
Nobody likes to get house repairs but sometimes they are necessary.
Beloved, it will take time and effort to repair broken foundations you have already built your life upon. As it is in the natural, so it is in the spiritual. You may have to take everything out, lay your house bare, dig deep then fix the issues underneath – your love walk and your conformity to the Word so that when you put everything back together again your foundation will remain fixed. Then you will be able to hold the weights not only of this life but also receive and maintain the glory of the Presence and the promises of God.
