Most people start the year with big goals and/or New Year resolutions. However, most people don’t stay focused long enough to see their goals to fruition. Most people get stuck, get bored, fall off and simply give up. Why? Because they don’t have a continuation plan in place, and having no plan is, in fact, a plan to fail.
Here are some simply ways to reset, refocus and restart your goals so you can finish what you started.
Second Quarter – Spring
We all know what spring means. Time to clean. For most people spring cleaning means cleaning out our physical spaces, however going into the second quarter of the year it’s also a good idea to clean out your spiritual, mental, and emotional spaces.
Spiritual
Go into your quiet place, focus inward, and then locate yourself. Where are you on the path to where you want to be? Have hindrances crept into your time and relationship with God i.e. your spiritual space? Are you farther away from God or closer to Him? If you are not in the place you should be fix it. The way to do this is:
- Slow all the way down and regroup.
- After you have quieted your soul, get before God in worship, word, and prayer.
- Meditate on God’s love and goodness toward you until you find the place of intimacy that you left (your inner-Eden).
- Stay awhile.
Mental
Who’s living in your head space? What are you letting into your mind? Everything you let into your ear and eye gates end up settling down in your mind. Is your mind filled with God’s word, your words or other words? Turn off all the voices of defeat, debate, doubt and procrastination and get them out of your head.
Emotional
What’s eating you, or should I ask what are you eating? I find that when I’m emotionally drained I eat sweets, lots of them. That’s how I can tell I’m not handling my emotions well. If I don’t act out I eat out when what I need to do is cry out, meaning get before God, release my cares and receive His peace. Whatever emotional issues and baggage you’re carrying needs to be cleaned out and replaced with things such as joy, peace and patience. It’s process but it begins with surrender.
Once you’re your spirit, mind, and soul is clean you’re ready to reset.
Reset, simply put means to reorganize, retune and rearrange.
This means taking a look at each one of your goals carefully in order to reevaluate and reset their priority level. Sometimes we take on too many things, things that should’ve or could’ve waited or things that should have never be taken on at all but you just don’t know until you try.
Some goals may need to be put on hold while other may need to come to the top of the list and be given more time and energy, still others may need to be let go all together, final some may be in completion mode and ready to marked as done.
Refocus
To focus means to bring to the center of your attention.
Once your inner-space in clean and in order you can refocus your attention on those things that are important enough to make it into the second quarter.
And finally…
Restart means to begin again.
However, before you can being working on your goals again you need to make a plan, meaning set times and dates to give attention to whatever it is you are working on. If it’s losing weight and working out you need to write out exactly how, when and what you are going to do to fit working out and eating right into your daily life. You also need to review and renew the completion timelines for your goals. This method will work for any goals.
Ready. Set. Begin, again!
