But seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness, and all these things shall be added to you. Matthew 6:33
I had a problem that is common to most humans, seeking first the kingdom of me. Why is this a problem? Because God said to seek FIRST His kingdom, then all the things that I desire will be added to me.
Many people are looking to find and fulfill their own plans and purposes.
We all desire happiness, so in an effort to find this happiness many people set out to live their dreams or do something “good” for mankind. The problem is they never ask God what His dreams and plans are for them. Instead whatever comes into their hearts they assume is from God if it feels right.
God’s plan may be different from what you had in mind. We can live a whole life time seeking happiness and the worlds’s ideal of success and never fulfill God’s thoughts and plans for our lives, if we don’t earnestly seek them out.
It’s a trap of the human heart, even in Christians if we don’t keep ourselves prayerfully submitted to God.
I got caught up doing what I thought was good and I did not want to let it go. When the Holy Spirit pricked my heart about the path I was on I could not understand why God would want to take something from me that was a good and godly thing, so I struggled with letting it go.
When we give them up our little kingdoms we gain so much more than we let go of.
I’m so thankful that I paid attention to the pricking of my heart by Holy Spirit and allowed Him to show me His plan.
When I gave up the kingdom of me – i.e. my plans, I realized that He already had a plan for me, one that is better than I could every come up with. Is it what I would have picked for myself? Absolutely, not. However, I have so much joy and peace in God’s will that what I thought I wanted no longer matters nor am I haunt by a counterfeit purpose because I have the real thing.
Beloved, if you’ve never asked God what His plans are for you, I urge you to take some time and do that today. You may find that they are different from your plans. Why wait until you’re half way down a path He didn’t plan for you, invested with time and resources, just to find out that He had something else, something better all the time.
