The Bible speaks of Anna, a prophet at the time of Jesus’ birth. You can find her story in Luke 2:36-38. She was a widow whose husband died after only seven years of marriage. She lived as a widow until the age of eighty-four. Anna spent her time in the temple before God worshiping Him with fasting and prayer. As a prophet she knew that the Messiah would come with salvation for Israel. When she saw Mary and Joseph in the temple speaking with a devout man named Simeon who was also waiting expectantly for the Messiah’s to save Israel she began to rejoice and testify about the child Jesus to all who along with her and Simeon had been waiting expectantly for the Messiah to be born.
Remaining Steadfast
After all those years waiting for the Lord to bring His Word to pass, she finally saw the manifestation of the promise. When I think of her story I ask myself – what would have happened if she would have given up on seeing the Messiah? And how did she remain steadfast for all those years?
Don’t Give Up
If she would have given up on seeing the Messiah’s salvation she would have missed her moment. He would have still come into the world and be presented at Jerusalem but she would have lived and died without seeing it. After spending so many years believing God in worship to give up would have meant wasted years and life that did not come to the expected end. The way Anna remained steadfast was by remaining constant in worship before the Lord with fasting and prayer.
This, Beloved, is the way we are to wait for salvation. Sometimes things don’t happen right away but if we don’t give up on God and continue to keep our face before His, we will see the salvation of the Lord in every area of life – family, finance, health and future things to come. We can claim deliverance; victory, and prosperity.
