Jesus said, “Just as the living Father sent Me and I live by (through, because of) the Father, even so whoever continues to feed on Me [whoever takes Me for his food and is nourished by Me] shall [in his turn] live through and because of Me.” (John 6:57 AMP)
The time you take to nourish your spirit by having intimate fellowship with the Lord will determine the quality and success of your Christian life.
God is a Spirit, if you want to connect with Him on an intimate level it must be in Spirit and in truth (John 4:24).
When we are born-again, we are made alive to God through Christ’s Spirit dwelling in our born-again spirits. However, the human spirit is usually the most under-developed part of our being, which makes it difficult to have direct fellowship with the Spirit of God consistently.
This is not what God intended. He desires that we learn to walk in the Spirit (Romans 8:4). However, because we spend most of our time interacting with the world using the other two parts of our being — the soul and the body — walking in the Spirit and having fellowship with God in the Spirit is something that has to be developed in each one of us.
We walk in the Spirit by hearing and obeying God’s voice through His Word and the inner witness of the Holy Spirit. The blessing of Abraham is the hearing of faith.
Paul said, “Did you receive the Spirit by the works of the law, or by the hearing of faith? …Therefore He who supplies the Spirit to you and works miracles among you, does He do it by the works of the law, or by the hearing of faith,” Galatians 3:2 and 5.
The Spirit helps us hear, believe and obey the God’s voice, which leads to the blessings of prosperity (not just financial), protection, and peace. The Spirit assists believers in our walk of faith, guiding us by the inner witness and the Word of God. This produces “hearing faith.” As you develop your spiritual senses you will also be nourishing your spirit.
The goal of the flesh, the world, and the devil is to keep us from nourishing our spirits by making small things seem urgent so we become distracted from focusing our attention on the truly important things.
Because we can get out of balance and off track very quickly if we don’t make our relationship with Christ a priority, the world and all it has to offer in its busyness will always present distractions to keep you from developing your own spirit, and in so doing keep you from having intimate relationship with God. This is why it is critical to take time to spend time with Him even if you have to neglect something else.
Jesus said, “Do not worry, saying, ‘What shall we eat?’ or ‘What shall we drink?’ or ‘What shall we wear?’ For after all these things the Gentiles seek. For your heavenly Father knows that you need all these things. But seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness, and all these things shall be added to you” (Matthew 6:31-33).
Beloved,we all need to make time in our daily routines to nourish our spirits. If you don’t take time to nourish your spirit — spending time with the Lord, feeding on His Word, and dwelling in His presence, you will end up walking according to your own plans, obeying the dictates of your flesh and in so doing, becoming unfruitful in the knowledge of God. The result is a form of godliness without God’s power to change your live (2 Timothy 3:5).
