YOU NEED TO KNOW THAT YOUR JOB DOES NOT DEFINE YOU!
We all go through different seasons in life, and often the work we do can and does change with our seasons. You might be a stay-at-home mom, a student, a corporate executive, running your own business, or working check out at a discount store. Ruth worked hard with a pure heart and pure motives at a lowly job to provide for her family. She did not let her job define her or take away her self-worth.
You have to know who you are and Who’s you are.
IT IS NOT WHAT YOU DO BUT WHO YOU ARE AND WHOSE YOU ARE THAT MATTER. YOU ARE GOD’S DAUGHTER!
Ruth knew who she was when she was in the field and when she married Boaz and became an owner of that same field — a daughter of God Most High — accepted into His family.
Your Good Works
Ruth’s decision to serve her mother-in-law and work willingly with her hands to support Naomi was a good work and acceptable to God (Proverbs 31:13).
Colossians 3:23–24 says, “Don’t look for your reward from others. Whatever you do, work heartily, as for the Lord and not for men, knowing that from the Lord you will receive the inheritance as your reward. You are serving the Lord Christ.”
Ruth didn’t think of herself as less than or unworthy because of her job. It was doing the thing she needed to do for the people the Lord put her in covenant relationship with so they could make it through the season they were in that mattered. God rewarded her good works and her good attitude in that hard season with rest in the house of her new husband.
Trust that your success is in doing the will of God, and you will receive your reward.
Don’t allow other people to define what success should look like for you.God can and will bless the works we think are mediocre when we are faithful to do the good works He calls us to in each season of our lives.
For God’s daughters, in every season, success is defined the same way — knowing the will of God for you and doing it. Beloved, whether you are walking through a season of doing what you have to do or a season of doing what you love to do, do it by faith as unto the Lord, knowing that He is with you and He will see you through. It is from Him, and Him alone that you receive your eternal reward.
