For ye have need of patience, that, after ye have done the will of God, ye might receive the promise. Hebrews 10:36
What if after God tells you to proclaim the promise (publicly announce what He spoke to you in private), you obey but it looks like nothing has changed?
This is why patience is necessary.
The word patience means to: cheerfully and hopefully endure, to be consistent, to have courage and staying power, to bear through trials with a good attitude, to have continuance in waiting.
After you’ve done the will of God by doing all He told you to do:
- You believe that He is who He says He is and that He will do whatever he says.
- You believe that has heard your prayers and granted your requests.
- You have ceased from trying to make happen what’s already finished, trying to get God to give you what He’s already said is your and you’ve entered the rest of God that true faith provides.
- By faith you’ve proclaimed the promise, publicly confessing your faith in God’s Word without any physical evidence to support your claim.
Having done all to stand, all you can do at this point is stand or draw back (Ephesians 6:13 and Hebrews 11:35). But how do you stand? You stand in patience.
Once you’ve done all you know and have been told to do by God be assured that the enemy of your soul and your destiny, the devil will bring that doubt, fear and worry that the promise won’t come to pass and if you are not guarding your heart and staying close to God doubt, fear and worry will make their way back into your mind and disturb your rest.
This is why patience is necessary and you must learn how to put it to work in your life.
I call this something the Holy Spirit shared with me: “graduated faith” that is faith that has achieved and moved on from the elementary stages and advanced to the skill and activity level of spiritually mature.
“Therefore let us go on and get past the elementary stage in the teachings and doctrine of Christ (the Messiah), advancing steadily toward the completeness and perfection that belong to spiritual maturity.” Hebrews 6:11 AMP
This is how Abraham made it through when in the natural it seemed all hope was gone:
“For Abraham, human reason for hope being gone, hoped in faith that he should become the father of many nations, as he had been promised.” Romans 4:18 AMP
He allowed patience to bring His faith to completion.
“But let endurance and steadfastness and patience have full play and do a thorough work, [in you] so that you may be [people] perfectly and fully developed [with no defects], lacking in nothing.” James 1:4 AMP
After Abraham ceased his toiling and began to proclaim his promise, he was able to focus his faith and allow patience to work, not only for him but in him. In the end when all was said and done because Abraham chose to believe God against all reason and to wait for the promise with a good attitude he was able to learn valuable truths about god and receive the promise.
He learned that he could believe in, rely on, and fully trust in God. He learned that God is faithful to His Word and does not alter it or change His mind about what He speaks regardless of how look it takes (Psalm 89:34). Hence, the need for patience.
Beloved, if you’ve done all you were told to do and you are waiting on God, I encourage you to let patience do its work in you. Ask the Lord what He wants you to learn in your time of waiting so that when the promise does come to pass you will be fully ready to handle it.
